The moment I got the chance to spend a holiday in Bali, Ubud was at the top of my itinerary. I wanted something different from Bali's famous beaches. Gorgeous? sure, but always packed with crowds. Ubud fit exactly what I was looking for, with its lush green rice terraces, deep rooted culture, and a slower pace of life that felt like a proper reset. Turns out, that decision led me straight to an Ubud Indian restaurant that became one of the most memorable parts of my trip.
A Simple Ubud Indian Restaurant in Jalan Sukma
I came across this experience while strolling along Jalan Sukma, one of the quieter streets near the center of Ubud. The area is filled with cafés, boutique shops, guesthouses, and wellness spots. It's a pleasant place to wander without any particular plan.
My family and I were simply looking for a place to have lunch, when a modest Ubud Indian restaurant caught our attention. It was a small café with a sign that read “Chai of the Tiger Indian Fusion”. It did not look flashy, but something about it made us curious enough to stop and take a closer look.
To be honest, I had tried Indian food a few times before. The flavors are rich in spices, yet still enjoyable and well balanced. I liked it, but I had never gone out of my way to look for it. That day was different. I happened to be in the mood for something familiar but a little different. So we walked in with zero expectations, just hoping for a good meal.
Menu, Vibes, and a Good First Look
Opening the menu felt exactly like flipping through any typical Indian café's book. Familiar names like Butter Chicken, Pani Puri, Samosa, and Thali all lined up, alongside a bunch of chai and lassi options I'd never even heard of. Nothing too fancy, just straightforward, honest sounding food. It gave off proper Ubud Indian restaurant energy right from the first page.
What actually caught me off guard was the space itself. Soft music played in the background while conversations filled the room with a relaxed energy. Some guests lingered long after finishing their meals, while others laughed together around the board games available at the café. It created a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged people to slow down.
A Flavor That Exceeded Expectations
When our food finally arrived, I could not wait to take the first bite. That first taste instantly exceeded my expectations. The spices were rich without being overwhelming, and every flavor felt balanced and easy to enjoy. The Butter Chicken was creamy and comforting. Every spoonful felt layered, like there was something new to notice each time. It made me think, "So this must be the authentic Indian taste that people have been talking about." That meal completely changed my impression of Indian food.

Looking back, it became one of the highlights of my trip. I hope to return to Ubud someday, explore more of its beautiful corners, and enjoy another meal at Chai of the Tiger. If you are planning to visit, this Ubud Indian restaurant is located at Jl. Sukma Kesuma No. 25, Ubud, Bali. It is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.
